Nothing can be better than Sunday lunch on the beach when the sun is shining and the sky is blue, especially if you are fortunate enough to live on the Cote d’Azur.
The beach is at Marine du Cogolin and this is at the base of the Gulf of St Tropez looking out to sea, next to Port Grimaud and with St Maxime a few kilometers on the left and St Tropez on the right.
The view was made even more spectacular by the big powerboats going out for their first trips of the season and the many yachts with their Spinnakers bellowing in the wind.
The restaurant we chose was Belucia’s which is one of two on this beach and the more expensive. What it loses in cost is more than made up for in the quality of its food and the trouble that has been put into the ambiance.
This is a restaurant that my wife and I visit regularly when we are by ourselves or the people we are with are paying for themselves on all other occasions we visit the cheaper one next door! When you have your children and kids with you it gets expensive!
We both started with with Moules Farcis, 12 mussels grilled in their open shells with butter, parsley and a deal of garlic. We have tried this dish throughout the region and have found no better.
I was quite boring with my second course which was fillet steak, cooked rare, with garlic butter on top. This came with a delicious ratatouille and some mange tout and baby carrots and was delicious. Oh I nearly forgot the big chunky chips!
My wife had Cabris, baby lamb. This was absolutely delicious and came rose’ with a wonderfully crispy skin. Her vegetables were the same as mine.
After that there was definitely no room for dessert!
I would recommend this restaurant and beach as it is more family friendly than Pampalonne which is on the other side of St Tropez and is infinitely easier to get to when our roads become clogged with visitors going to the delights of St Tropez.
