The Swimming Pool

Having a swimming pool in the South of France is a mixed blessing, on the one hand it is marvelous from June to October, but on the other it is a perpetual toil to keep it in order every day year by year.
As you are no doubt aware there are numerous types of pools, either concrete ( and often tiled) fiberglass ( One piece mould fitted directly into ground) or Liner that is a soft plastic skin fitted inside a concreted whole, with insulation fitted underneath it. Then you can have different types of water purification, either chlorine or salt (with electrolysis to clean the water by electrolysis). Either of these needs constant monitoring to keep the ph etc. at the correct levels so that algae don’t form.
Then you have the filtration systems that need constant attention to ensure there is not too much air in the pump and the filters, of which there are many sorts, need regular cleaning to ensure that they work correctly!
Of course, then you need to ensure that if you have no cover for the pool that you get all the leaves and muck that fall into it, especially when we have a Mistral. Even with a cover, that help to keep the heat in overnight, one still gets rubbish in the pool so constant attention is needed to make the pool presentable.
One might think that I do not like pools. Well I love them but their upkeep is tantamount to having 3 extra dependents both in ones time and finances.
BUT IT IS WORTH IT WHEN YOU SEE YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN PLAYING IN IT
