Anybody looking for a feast should visit this quaint restaurant situated in the small village of La Mole about 20 minutes from St Tropez direction Hyères. It is renowned on the Cote D’Azure for the copious amount of food at a fixed price of €55. Be sure to go with cash as they do not accept credit cards! I well remember my first visit when I took friends and finished up borrowing money from them instead of paying for them.
The small village has no cash machine which makes it even worse!The menu starts with 3 big terrines of delicious pates being put on the table together with a big basket of thick hot toast and a large bottle of pickled cucumbers, carrots and other vegetables. The killer is that they leave it on the table until one can eat no more!This is followed by a choice of entrée and main course. I ordered the steak Rossini which had so much fois gras on it that I couldn’t really eat it all.The mammoth cheese platter is then offered and left on the table and by this time one is gasping for breath and room in ones stomach.The light dessert of tarte pomme is then put before you and you think you have finished, but no!!There arrives at the table 2 more terrines and two more bowls, which they leave on the table again. These hold crème caramel, mousse aux chocolat (my wife’s favourite), pears in wine and prunes (which, at this stage, are probably a good idea!).These are all impossible to ignore sitting in front of you and one finds enough room.You leave the restaurant, if you can still stand up, feeling either very full or ill!!”In winter the restaurant is in a large room behind the bar tabac and one has to walk through the kitchen to reach it. In summer the dining is outside next to the quiet road with an old petrol pump on the pavement.
I can certainly recommend this restaurant which we love, however we only visit once or twice a year as the meal is so large and we find it difficult to control our avarice.The restaurant is open April to October.04 94 49 57 01
