BOULANGERIES in FRANCE

The bakeries/boulangeries are some of the most visited places in France. These artisans/bakers are the most important people in a town. People want to get their daily bread fresh from the oven or from a specific bakery. Everyone has his/her own favorite bakery. They would walk outside even in the rain to get that fresh bread or pastry of the day. This is one of the things I appreciate very much about France and its culture, the French are very particular about what they eat and drink.
What astound me are the plethora of gateaux available but the majority of the French are slim! Any explanation besides lots of sex?
Did you ever wonder why you see the French peddling, on their bicycles, twice a day for bread? Well then try eating a 4 hour old baguette!!! It goes as hard a rock!!
In one of our local small villages, Cogolin, I recently counted 8 boulangeries selling a fantastic variety of both plain and cereal bread, and my favourite boulangerie is The Tarte Tropezienne which does a gorgeous light brown cereal bread called Moisson.

The boulangeries are often drive- in and have places for drinks/coffee attached.
The assortment of product goes from plain bread to pizza, quiches, croissants and the most delicious gateaux. One thing the French do not do well is meat pies. I don’t know why but they really miss out in this area.
Some of the bread is price controlled by the state and is sold by weight whilst the specialist breads are not.
In St Maxime and the villages around there are a plethora of great boulangeries. So enjoy!
