The main hospital for the area is the Pole Sante du Golfe in Gassin. This is a brand new hospital that was originally in an old building on the road into St Tropez. This has now been converted into a club called The Cube which even has an Ice Bar! Not sure, exactly, what that is but my daughter informs me you have to put on warm clothing to stop yourself from freezing! Not my idea of a good night out!!
The hospital has an Accident & Emergency department that is open all the time and is very helpful.
The Health Service in France is very efficient and it all starts with a visit to a doctor, who can arrange for x rays and specialist visits practically immediately, unlike in the UK where one would wait months for appointments.
For Uk residents, in possession of a EHIC card, which is obtainable on line, from the NHS http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1073.aspx?CategoryID=68&SubCategoryID=159 will cover the majority of your costs if you have a medical problem whilst in France. The hospital will automatically charge 80% of the medical costs to the card and the patient pays the rest.
I recently had cause to visit the hospital, where my 81 year old mother in law was having a hip replacement, with just a few weeks between diagnosis and operation, and I was impressed by the service and cleanliness and of course the beautiful view of the mountains from the window.
Hope you don’t have to visit, but if you do what better place to get attention.
