San Remo and Market, Italy

San Remo is about 2 hours from our home in Grimaud and is a different world, where the food is magnificent, the prices are much lower and the town is a hive of activity all year around.
The market is all around the permanent food market where all the best Italian produce is available. The general market is on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
The first evening we ate in the street restaurant belonging to the Hotel and around 8p.m. the road was pedestrianised and the traffic stopped. It is a wonderful place to people watch. The food was typically Italian with wonderful pasta! Why can’t the French make it like that?!
On the second night we visited a recommended restaurant, Le Quattro Stagioni (the Four Seasons) in one of the alleys leading to the market. The tables were all set outside on the road and the food was truly amazing. We started by both having the fish starter which was made up of three separate fish courses brought plate by plate! This took quite a while to get through. The first dish was Whitebait, the second Octopus with potatoes and the third minced fish on toast. I followed this with a Veal T-Bone and my wife had Ravioli, in a sauce, stuffed with fish in a sauce with mussels. The ravioli were the size of a golf ball and the pastry very thick. Amazing!
On our way back to France we stopped for lunch in Bordeghera just before the French border at a restaurant on the beach, that we visit regularly and ended our break with Pasta in tomato sauce and King Prawns for me and for my wife Frito Misto, a mixture of different fish and sea food.
We arrived home ready for a diet and with lots of parcels full of Cashmere jumpers for the winter, for both of us, and a variety of sandals for my wife.
I must not forget that our Belgian Shepherd, Micha, was with us and was accepted in all the restaurants and in the hotel. In fact she was much better behaved than me!
