Dogs in France

For those of us who are so attached to dogs, that we think of them as family (but less of a problem) , moving to France or Italy is a real release from the problem of where you can go with a dog without being told to leave or put your dog in the car.
I know that Mark and I are so attached to our dogs, Lady and Micha, that we would feel a personal insult if we were told we could not enter a restaurant with them, almost akin to being told to leave your wife outside!
The attitude in France is so different! The dog is often supplied with water before you are and is made to feel welcome. I thought the English were dog lovers but the majority of French excel them.
As to Hotels, my wife and I have travelled France & Italy in all quality of hotels and the dog is always accepted, though sometimes barred from the more up market restaurants of the hotel, but not often!
We arrived in one of our favorite hotels in Italy, The Villa Massa in Florence, and they even had a doggy camp bed in the room especially for our dog.
Having a dog is such a therapeutic experience, as in a dog you have both a friend and somebody that forces you to exercise without verbally blackmailing you (they use eye contact!)
It is possible to travel throughout the EU without any problems with having a dog and it is only when going to the UK that one needs a Doggy Passport ( http://www.dogsaway.co.uk/) and the dog chipped.
The golden rule is, always carry a Poop Bag!! It is just polite!
